The Preppy Pink Pony - Half moon wicker bags, the Jane and Beverly Basket

People stop me on the street to ask where I got my purse. After my saddle pads, these bags were the first items sold at Preppy Pink Pony. I still have the first woven bag I bought which is over five years old yet looks brand new. The bags are the product of two very special friends of mine who have a great story.

Their search for a "Florida Basket" lead them to beautiful Thailand; these baskets are "Green" and woven from an invasive water plant that chokes the rivers and streams of the Thai countryside. Over the years they helped develop this industry and forged a close relationship with the group of women weavers who make their baskets. These women have taken this opportunity to improve their weaving skills and increase their financial independence without leaving their communities. The Thai Minister of Trade encourage and supports this work in his country.

Imagine this: when you buy one of these bags you are promoting more than a lovely fashion statement! You are helping women become independent in rural villages.

We do all we can to get these bags out in two weeks; but as the holidays approach the bags could take up to three weeks. So please plan ahead!

This basket group can fit all your handbag needs. I own one of each size. The smallest can be used for "Cocktails on the Cape" or as a young girl's first handbag. The medium is the perfect luncheon size or if you are small in stature, the perfect daily purse. The large is an everyday basket, big enough for all those important items. Our beach basket is big and roomy fabulous for the beach or shopping. I have two for my needlepoint. Remember, these baskets are "green"- woven from a choking weed in Thai rivers. Luckily, they make a strong and lasting basket! The baskets have a bamboo handle.

The Jane Basket

Great small beach tote-book and magazine fit perfectly The large is shown on the left in our new Delray Beach with Lime Combo. This basket is woven with thicker, more dense water hyacinth than our signature basket. It has a wrapped circle handle. Medium Becky basket shown on right in our new Abaco with Lime Combo. This shape bag is my new favorite! I use the large one for my needlepoint. I can throw it in the back of the car and on the floor at Starbucks and it still looks brand new.
